Important Information About Safe Passage Letters

Austin, TX

Updated 4/30/20

Why do you need Safe Passage Letters?

Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to issue Executive Orders in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In accordance with Executive Order GA-11, there is a mandated 14 day self-quarantine period for an expanded list of air travel from designated hot spots into Texas that does not apply to critical infrastructure workers pursuant to the Department of Homeland Security-CISA Guidance. The previous Executive Order, GA-12 limiting road travelers from the State of Louisiana to Texas and requiring a 14 day self-quarantine periods has been rescinded by Executive Order GA-20, in effect Friday, May 1.

I need a new Safe Passage Letter.

Please fill out this form (if you are with QCS: fill out this form) and an updated letter with your name, entity, exemption and company phone number will be issued as soon as possible. While waiting for an updated letter DO NOT stop working, continue business as usual.

Is my entity exempt under the Texas Department of Emergency Management? Do I need a letter from the State of Texas?

On 3/31/2020, the Texas Governor provided new instructions for Louisiana travel under GA-11 and GA-12. RigUp, Inc., RUSCO, RUDTUK , Ally Consulting, Planning Thru Completion (PTC), Onshore Quality Specialists (QCS), HCS, Harvest Energy, Avery Technical Resources, Energy First and TradesMasters fall under essential services as outlined in the Governor’s new executive order GA-14. There is no longer a need to request a travel exemption letter from the State of Texas, so you do not need a letter from the State.

What do I need to carry with me?

All essential workers should have their company ID and a credential or letter indicating you are an essential worker for your company as specified by Department of Homeland Security-CISA Guidance. If you do not have a company ID, a Drivers’ License is sufficient.

Will there be checkpoints at the TX/LA border?

At this time the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is not planning any checkpoints. Expect Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) signs with information as you enter Texas from Louisiana.
